‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: Meg Ryan Shares Emotional Homage to Director Rob Reiner
The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Tragic Discovery
Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA at the weekend.
“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Legal Proceedings Unfold
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan added. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”
Children Share Their Grief
Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”
Colleagues and Friends Remember
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.
Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
