British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up her season and plans to retain trainer for 2026.
The British player made it to the third stage in three of the four Grand Slams this year.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her remaining competitions this season due to the illness she has been battling over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old had planned to participate in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover prior to beginning plans for the 2026 season.
Her upcoming training are set to feature coach Francisco Roig, as they will keep partnering again next season.
The tennis professional required blood pressure checks while playing the initial match versus Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She again required medical attention at the Ningbo Open this week, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.
She was also playing noticeably restricted in the deciding set against Zhu due to a lower back issue that has affected her during parts of the season.
Such performances signaled a promising season, in which the player advanced into the international top 30 after more than three years in more than three years, ended with three successive defeats.
Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by Jessica Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.
She secured 28 victories in the current season and advanced to the semis in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed en route before losing in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.
Her coach was trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig taking over in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but the collaboration persists, with planned training sessions late this year.
She mentioned that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
She came very close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at the first competition with Roig in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
