Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
