England Coach Tim Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be available for the first Test because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
Speaking as the English squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, Southee said of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.
"We will determine the outcome over the next little while."
England pace icon Broad had declared the Australia team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Aussie side," he said.
"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [the English] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I think the whole cricket world is."
But, prior to the English team head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
