Former Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor stands accused of committing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

The Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

List of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked individuals with information to contact the relevant police force.
