Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Will Have a Procedure for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he received a diagnosis with cancer of the lung and will undergo an operation.

Cancer Caught Early

The 82-year-old singer, whose parade of beloved anthems from "Mandy" established him as one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to combat the illness, which is detected early.

ā€œFor those who have been following, I recently endured six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

ā€œDespite the fact that I was recovered from the illness and performing again for my residency, my excellent physician ordered an MRI just to make sure that there were no issues.

ā€œThe MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that must be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a skilled doctor) that it was caught so early.ā€

Rescheduled Shows

He has postponed a number of upcoming shows, but stated he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his long-running concert series at his Vegas home.

He added: ā€œThe medical team do not believe it has metastasized and I’m having examinations to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. No chemo. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just home remedies and favorite shows.

ā€œI’m eagerly awaiting until I return to my familiar venue at the Westgate Las Vegas for our special weekend performances.ā€

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and came out as gay in 2017, after marrying his partner of many years, Garry Kief in secret in 2014.

The pair were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. Last year, Manilow discussed how important Kief had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

ā€œDuring my rapid rise to fame, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, coming home to an empty hotel room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re by yourself evening after evening,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I encountered my future husband right around when it was blowing up. And I was spared from having to go back to those isolated suites. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to share joys with.

ā€œI wish that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was pretty lonely until I met Garry. And then it was fun.ā€
