A extended journey through Australia was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The vessel departed without her and went back several hours later after the crew discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation located her remains the next day.

Officials are examining the incident, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company announced that passengers and crew on the ship were informed that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he added that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" banning any additional guests from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, mum passed away, by herself."
